Dramatically as our art forms and personal lives may differ, I know that many if not most other “creatives” share these same questions, especially in a time when financial issues lend a sense of scarcity and constraint to so many lives. I look forward to collaborating on a day of mutual exploration, discovery, and support, and hope you will join us if you can.

On July 18, I’m offering a one-day class called “De-Cluttering Your Creativity” at the Vero Beach Museum of Art. It’s the first session on creativity generally, rather than writing specifically, that I’ve taught in a long time, and I designed it straight from my own questions and challenges. How do I keep the everyday “clutter” of commitments, priorities, personalities, and just plain stuff from overwhelming the space and time I need to pursue my creative work? What kind of space do I need in my heart, my home, my schedule, my budget, my relationships to do my writing and make my art? Why is it so easy to put other needs—and others’ needs—first, before this practice that feeds me so deeply?
